Hi...I am a forensic meteorologist and I have helped hundreds of home and business owners in winning their battles with denied hurricane insurance claims.
After a hurricane or major storm, one of the most important steps in recovery is filing an insurance claim. In many cases, there may be a dispute whether or not certain events or sequence of events are covered by the individual insurance policy. Some of these disputes may be resolved by determining the exact timing of weather elements or the intensity/strength of a weather element, or what specific hurricane element was the cause of initial and/or primary damage to their property. If this is the case, LRC Services offers a thorough and detailed accounting of exact timing of weather events and/or evaluation of the strength and/or intensity of specific weather elements such as wind speeds and duration.
In most hurricane related claims, insurance decisions to deny claims is based upon incomplete meteorological data, analysis of weather information by non-meteorologists or those meteorologists that are not Federally certified in interpretation of radar, satellite and observed data.
The LRC Services staff has provided forensic meteorological services since 1995. As a forensic meteorology firm, we have been involved with over 400 hurricane, auto accident, aviation accident and personal injury cases where we provided an expert opinion of the timeline of events for hurricanes since 1995 along the Gulf Coast and Atlantic seaboard. Currently we are retained in cases from Hurricanes Katrina and Rita (2005) along with other cases from 2004.
Through the use of forensic meteorology, LRC Services can reconstruct weather events depicting the timing, intensity, and duration of hurricane related elements to determine whether wind forces caused the majority of damage to property. We provide specific information for specific properties.
Our meteorological staff has over 12 years of forensic meteorology experience along the Gulf Coast and eastern seaboard. One member of our staff is a Federal court-recognized expert in forensic hurricane meteorology and has provided expert testimony for hurricane-related cases. Our staff has researched and provided conclusive information for Tropical Storms Alberto and Beryl (1994), Hurricanes Erin and Opal (1995), Hurricane Danny (1997), Hurricanes Charley, Frances, Jeanne and Ivan (2004), Hurricanes Dennis, Katrina and Rita (2005).
We have access to the full range of current and historical weather records from Federal and state agencies to include: surface weather observations, upper air wind records, hurricane reconnaissance reports, satellite photos, and Doppler weather and wind imagery.
A significant point to consider when choosing a forensic meteorological service is experience and Federal certification in the interpretation of records. Our staff has received Federal certification in the operation and interpretation of NEXRAD Doppler weather products. This certification is normally reserved only for Federal employees. These products can only be interpreted correctly by someone with Federal training and certification of NEXRAD Doppler products.
The NEXRAD Doppler weather radar can provide a variety of precise and detailed images for such phenomena as wind speeds, wind shear, tornadic signatures, microbursts, thunderstorm intensity, rainfall amounts, rate of change for weather elements, and more.
The LRC Services staff has also received Federal certification is surface weather observations, weather forecasting, severe weather forecasting, satellite interpretation, issuance of weather warnings and much more. Most meteorological “experts” have no Federal certification in any category.
Another strength of LRC Services is that we will make an on-site survey of each specific property to assess damages at that exact location, no matter where the property is located. By actually surveying the on-site damage, small indicators can be identified to reinforce the conclusion of the report. We provide detailed analysis, timing of events, and a wide range of information to develop a report for each residence. This degree of service is not found with other forensic services at such a low cost.
Over 95% of meteorological experts have not received required NEXRAD training and do not qualify as NEXRAD certified experts. Some experts claim to be NEXRAD experts, but have never operated a NEXRAD or attended required training courses. This is not the case with LRC Services.
In the past, our staff has provided expert courtroom testimony for hurricane-related lawsuits. The defense counsels brought in their meteorological experts that did not make on-site surveys, were not certified as meteorologists or NEXRAD operators, and had no experience in real-time meteorology.
Conversely, our staff provided testimony of events during the storms, made detailed analyses of their on-site surveys, provided information of their Federal certifications, offered objective interpretation of various weather records, and helped to prove the sequence of events during a severe storm or hurricane. As a result, we have helped recover over $100 million dollars in insurance claims awarded by jury trials.
When a firm went to court over an insurance claim of $41 million dollars, that law firm came to LRC Services. The plaintiff won the case because LRC Services could substantiate all opinions and facts in a manner that the jury could understand, while providing data that discredited the defense expert’s opinion.
Our rates for each case are extremely reasonable and can be obtained on a flat rate basis of $4000 per individual residential property. Fees for commercial property are based upon the size and complexity of the specific commercial building. When more than one case is assigned, we offer substantial discounts on our fees.
